- Kathy Griesenbeck, Executive Director, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

“On behalf of the members of the Board of Trustees, the staff and the scores of performers, artists, volunteers, and other participants who benefit from the enjoy San Pedro Playhouse’s many programs, I want to thank you and the San Antonio Junior Forum for its support of San Pedro Playhouse through its grant award of $2450.00 to support the musical theatre youth group, Broadway Headliners”.

“On behalf of the clients, staff members and Board of Directors of the San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF) I would like to thank the San Antonio Junior Forum for your generous grant of $2400 for our HIV testing program.  This money will be used to purchase test kits for those testing for HIV infection”.

“We at SAAF feel so fortunate in receiving your support for multiple years.  We look forward to your reception in April and to receiving a copy of your cookbook.  We would love to have your members tour our facility and to discuss volunteer opportunities.  We were so thrilled that Gaye Fields in the past came to SAAF to personally deliver our check.  SAAF thinks it is part of responsible stewardship for funders to visit the programs they fund and welcome any of your members at any time to visit”.

- Jill Rips, Deputy Executive Director, San Antonio Aids Foundation

“I just received notification of the assistance to Unicorn Centers for our much needed Evacuation Chair.  What a cool gift from our friends at the San Antonio Junior Forum!  I look forward to you contacting us for a tour and hopefully to discuss a volunteer opportunity”.

- John Schwab, Executive Director, Unicorn Centers, Inc.

“Thank you…Thank you… Thank you!  Our clients will really enjoy the recreational activities your grant will support.  I look forward to showing you our programs at your convenience.  Photos are always welcome”.

- Pamela Kelly, Executive Director, Reaching Maximum Independence

“On behalf of the more than 2500 families our three San Antonio Ronald McDonald Houses will serve in 2009 alone, please accept our sincere gratitude for your generous $2500.00 contribution for our taxi voucher program.  Your thoughtful contribution will be put to good use, directly benefiting our special families and will ease some of their burden while staying in San Antonio with their ill child”.

- Pat Bivin, Executive Director, Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Antonio, Texas

“Thank you for making a difference with your gift of $1600 received April 28, 2009 to The Winston School San Antonio in support of the Digital Library Checkout “Books on MP3”.  Your generous support has truly made a difference in the lives of our Winston students, as they continue to overcome their learning differences and excel in the world.”

- Charles J, Karulak, Headmaster, The Winston School San Antonio

“Kinetic Kids would like to extend a huge thanks to San Antonio Junior Forum for the $2500 donation to our bike camp.  We greatly appreciate your support in helping make dreams come true for over 55 children with special needs wanting to ride a 2 wheeled bike!”

- Kacey Wernli, Executive Director, Kinetic Kids

“We thank you and the San Antonio Junior Forum for your kind donation of $2500.00 to Dreams Fulfilled Through Music.  This grant will allow DFTM to expand our Teacher Education and Resource Program through the use of the new video camcorder and movie editing software we will soon be purchasing.  As a result, our mission of helping individuals with special needs will be greatly enhanced.”

- Leonard Lopez, President of the Board, Dreams Fulfilled Through Music

“Thank you and the members of the San Antonio Junior Forum for providing a grant to Children’s Association for Maximum Potential (CAMP) in the amount of $2500.  These funds will provide new equipment and supplies for the campers to use this summer.

As you know, CAMP has been providing a safe, fun-filled camping experience for children with developmental disabilities and other special needs from Bexar County for the past thirty years.  The time these children spend at camp CAMP provides much needed respite for their parents or other caregivers.  For many, this brief period is the only break they get from their care-giving duties the entire year.”

- T. Paul Furukawa, Executive Director, Children’s Association for Maximum Potential

Scholarships

Scholarships

In 1972, the first annual San Antonio Junior Forum Scholarship fund was established. Each year we present scholarships to local graduating high school seniors. Since 1972, more than $115,000 has been awarded.

San Antonio Junior Forum offers a minimum of (3) one-year scholarship annually.

  • The San Antonio Junior Forum Memorial Scholarship of $2000 is awarded each year to a graduating senior planning to attend any college/university in the USA

  • The San Antonio Junior Forum Presidential Scholarship of $2000 is awarded each year to a greater San Antonio area graduating senior planning to attend a college/university in Texas

  • The San Antonio Junior Forum Margaret Hudson Scholarship of $8000 is awarded every four years, apportioned at $2000 per year, to a graduating senior from Bexar County high school planning to attend a college/university in Texas

  • Other San Antonio Junior Forum Presidential Scholarships may be awarded if funds are available

Applicants must rank in the top 25% of their class and must be planning to attend a four-year college/university program in the fall.  Committee selection will be based on financial need, leadership, scholarship and character.  One nomination per school is accepted.

Applications are received through the Bexar County Scholarship Clearing House.

Scholarship recipients are required to submit in a timely manner:

. Verification of acceptance from the 4 year college/university to be attended
. Verification of enrolment as a full time student at a 4 year accredited college/university (9+ semester               credit hours)
. Official transcripts of grades showing that the student has maintained a good academic standing each               semester
(absence of any contingency that would result in the student being on academic probation or academic                dismissal)
. Notification in writing of any changes in personal information and/or changes in the college/university               attended

Failure to provide any of the above information will result in the loss of qualification for scholarship.
